Book Club Radio is a monthly, themed underground rave in Brooklyn, New York, curated by DJs Tinzo and JoJo. Each party centers around a concept that blurs music, fashion, and performance, turning the dance floor into a living world rather than just a night out. The events attract a devoted community drawn to the intimacy, theatricality, and sense of collective play—where dressing for the theme is as much a form of participation as dancing, and the line between audience and spectacle disappears.
I began attending Book Club Radio wearing my own creations, designing and building outfits in response to each month’s theme as a way to experiment, hide, transform, and fully inhabit the night. Over time, these looks became part of how I showed up within the space, using costume as both armor and expression. That relationship eventually extended beyond the dance floor, leading me to collaborate directly with Tinzo, creating custom costumes for her and translating the ethos of Book Club Radio into wearable forms that moved between DJ booth, crowd, and performance.
